Introduction

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management now offers warehouse management-only mode (preview), which means you can use its core functionality with your existing investments in third-party ERP and order management systems. This mode allows for integration of automation, carrier integration, and the Warehouse Management mobile app. The lightweight source documents, dedicated to inbound and outbound shipment orders, replace general-purpose documents.

Modern businesses require agile warehousing solutions that can adapt to changing customer demands. This often involves separating warehouse management functionality from ERP functions, and the adoption of cloud-based warehouse systems. These systems provide robust core WMS capabilities, support shared warehousing, and facilitate extended scenarios through pre-configured integrations with Microsoft’s cloud solutions. They also offer flexibility to integrate with third-party systems and cloud-based printing solutions.

How to Enable and configure Warehouse management only mode ?

The feature known as (Preview) Warehouse management only mode must be turned on under feature management and the system must be running version 10.0.36 or later in order to use this mode.

To use Warehouse management only mode, set up a source system on the Source systems page. Go to Warehouse management > Setup > Warehouse management integration > Source systems to configure source systems.

The Source system creates automated background processes, including post shipment packing slips for outbound shipment order finalization, post shipment receipts for inbound shipment order finalization, and process shipment order messages for processing inbound and outbound shipment order messages, with a default repeat interval of 1 minute.

Set up automatic release of outbound shipment orders Release to warehouse is the process of preparing inventory for dispatch processing, creating load lines, shipments, and loads if automatic wave processing is set up. To automate this process, set up a batch job in Warehouse management > Release to warehouse > Automatic release of outbound shipment orders.

To ensure accurate supply chain management, set up number sequences for outbound and inbound shipment orders if external system order numbers don’t match Supply Chain Management order numbers. This includes extra sequences for Warehouse Management only mode, such as outbound and inbound shipment orders.

To enable warehouse workers to use the Warehouse Management mobile app for inbound shipment transactions, set up mobile device menu items for license plate, load item, mixed license plate, inbound shipment order line, item, and order line receiving processes.

Master data and business events must also be set up to enable meaningful information exchange between the two systems.
